HOLYOKE¬†— While the State House is located in Boston, it will celebrate Holyoke for a day in September.

State Rep. Aaron Vega, state Sen. Donald Humason and the Holyoke Art League will host a Holyoke Day at the State House on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The day will commemorate that the first bench in the MassBenches project was made in honor of Holyoke.

The bench features the city’s history on the back and current projects on the front. It will be installed in the State House from Monday, Sept. 21 until Thursday, Sept. 24.

Vega and Humason invite Western Massachusetts to visit the state capital on Holyoke day. A bus will leave Holyoke from the Canal Arts Gallery, 380 Dwight St., at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 24. Visitors will tour the state house, eat lunch and attend a reception before returning to Holyoke for the evening around 5 p.m. The bus trip and lunch costs $35 and must be reserved by Sept. 16. The reception is free and open to the public.

“This is a great opportunity to both showcase Holyoke’s art community in Boston and also allow Holyokers to visit the State House, which is a very special place,” Vega said.
